Project overview
Ridgeline, an outdoor gear startup, needed a brand identity capable of competing with long-established, trusted outdoor brands. Their founder wanted visuals that communicated durability, adventure, and trust, without feeling generic or overly rugged. We developed a bold, versatile identity system built to work across product tags, packaging, and digital marketing. Given the competitive category, differentiation was critical, requiring careful research into competitor visuals before any design work began.
Project process
Research came first, auditing competitor branding to identify visual gaps Ridgeline could authentically own in the market. We developed a symbol-based logo alongside a rugged yet clean typography system reflecting durability and adventure. Multiple applications were mocked up, including tags, packaging, and social templates, to test real-world versatility. After refinement based on founder feedback, we delivered a complete brand guideline document ensuring consistent future use.
Final result
Ridgeline launched their identity alongside their first product drop, generating strong early attention within outdoor and adventure communities. The brand's distinct visual identity helped secure coverage from two outdoor lifestyle publications within the first launch month. Customer feedback highlighted the branding as a key trust signal, especially important for a new, unproven gear company. Ridgeline continues scaling their product line using this identity as the consistent foundation for growth.
